COUNTRY GATE - A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE : Country Gate, a former farmyard, was built by the original settlers, the Simpson Family and each farm building has been restored to provide comfortable, character filled, modern accommodation.

Cosy wood heaters, tranquillity, magical starry nights, clear crisp mornings with native birdlife, bushwalks in Wombat State Forest, stunning sunsets.

A wonderful escape from the pressures of a busy life . Turn off the freeway and leave the city behind you. Only one hour from Melbourne and 20 minutes from Ballarat or Daylesford.

Set on two acres of landscaped gardens, our 4 star cottage and studios border a working cattle farm and stunning Wombat State Forest. At the end of a no through road Country Gate offers peace, seclusion and safety for children.

We offer fully self contained experiences for up to 12 people across our three properties, The Cottage, Studio, Forge .

Country Gate Studio, best described as 'an eclectic shed' is the former corrugated iron barn which has been lovingly restored using recycled timbers and diverse building materials, each piece seemingly with a story of its' own.

An enchanting space for two or sleeping up to four people comfortably, The Studio makes for anything but an ordinary weekend away.

Country Gate Cottage
The Cottage is perfect for families or groups of up to six people. It is a wonderful country retreat. With all the amenities of your own home, you can comfortably base yourself here for a longer stay in the Goldfields or Spa Country region or just relax during our two night weekend packages.

Country Gate Forge
Originally the blacksmith/workshop,this budget small studio is cosy and comfortable.
for one or two guests. It has been restored using the original workbench and hardwood plank linings. It is fully self contained and is set in the tranquil Country Gate garden with views of the surrounding forest.

Getting There
Travelling by car, Country Gate is just over 60 minutes from Melbourne's CBD and 20 ninutes from Ballarat, 5 minutes from the Western freeway north of Wallace. (Victorian Melways Map 77 B1)
Directions from Melbourne.
From the M8, take the Wallace Exit and head towards Springbank- (Ormond Road). Take the fifth right turn into Simpsons's Road. DO NOT TAKE O'CONNORS RD , Simpsons Road is the next road. past Country Gate is at the end of Simpsons Road.

Directions from Daylesford:
Take the Daylesford Ballan road
When you come to Leonards Hill (approx 3kms past Sailors Falls), go past Hall on right and go further .5 km and on a sweeping turn at the top of rise is a road and signpost to YOGA ASHRAM/ BARKSTEAD on your right. Take this turn and take first turn to left approx .5 km (North Road) and follow this road through Barkstead. (Do not take Rocklyn road). Follow the bitumen right through Barkstead. When you come out of Barkstead (approx 1KM)take left turn and follow this road ( yellow gravel road) until you come to bitumen road . You are now out of forest. ( Barkstead Road)
Go straight down bitumen road take first turn to left (approx 1.5 kms)- SIMPSONS ROAD. Country Gate is at the end of Simpsons Road (1KM)
Your host is at 15 Simpsons Road to pick up keys
