    Pocket Guide: York

You don’t have to drive all day for a romantic getaway from Perth! Just over an hour away, the charming and picturesque town of York will slow down time like a kiss in the movies and transport you to an era when men were gentlemen and ladies were, well, ladies. If that sounds too gushy for you – or you’d rather bring your girlfriends – then you can speed up time with the adventures to be had in the spectacular outdoors of the Avon Valley. So go on, scroll down to see our range of York hotels and classy farmhouses.

As Western Australia’s first inland settlement, York has a strong colonial history that’s on show in its beautiful historic streets. Many of the awe-worthy Victorian and Federation buildings and churches have been restored to their former glory, making York one of few WA towns to hold ‘Historic Town’ status. You’ll just love the cute little tearooms, where you can sip tea and chat for hours. There are also cafes and restaurants set between a treasure trove of galleries, antique stores and arts and crafts shops where you’re guaranteed to find a pretty souvenir for your desk at work (or a new crafty accessory).

Part of the Avon Valley, the lands surrounding York are home to babbling brooks and green rolling hills that ooze country charm. Don’t be fooled though - these picturesque landscapes aren’t all for gazing at through rose-tinted glasses while holding your lover’s hand. The skies above the horizon are all for action. You couldn’t skydive or hang-glide anywhere prettier than this! Horse treks and golf for the boys are other ways to get out and explore the sights without skipping a heartbeat.

The other towns in the Avon Valley will no doubt allure you. Brooktown is full of parks and gardens, Northam graces the banks of the Avon River at the heart of the valley, and New Norcia is a little piece of Spain in the bush. With nearly half of New Norcia’s heritage buildings listed by the National Trust, it’s also home to Benedictine Monastery, which is still a commune of monks today.

Feeling mesmerised by the sound of it all? York will show you what being a lady is all about – with a streak of adrenalin! Come and experience the joys of the Avon Valley, from the time-warp of the heritage streets to the postcard landscapes and the adventures to explore it with. Book your York accommodation with us and get packing your finest rags and comfiest leggings!
