Why should you go to Kalamazoo, Michigan? For starters, it’s a lovely city in the middle of the state, halfway between Chicago and Detroit.
It was the original home of the Gibson Guitar Corporation—you may have seen one of their instruments around the neck of Slash. And let’s not forget to mention the growing craft beer scene in the city. Check out our great Kalamazoo packages and book one now.
Woo-hoo, welcome to your holiday to Kalamazoo! Take care of your car fetish with a trip to the Gilmore Car Museum and eye-guzzle over 350 classic rides. But there aren’t just four-wheeled steeds at the Gilmore this place is home to an extensive collection of motorcycles like a 1947 Indian Chief and a 1910 Cleveland. When that’s over, be sure to grab a bite from the restored George & Sally’s 1941 Blue Moon Diner—it looks like it came from an episode of Happy Days.
How do you one-up a car museum? You go to an air museum like the Air Zoo. It used to be called the Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum, but that’s just too formal. Once there, blaze through a 180-degree 4-D simulation of a B-17 bombing mission during World War II, fly an F/A-18 Hornet in the flight simulator and take a mission to Mars without even joining NASA.
When you want to shop until you drop during your Kalamazoo holiday, the downtown area will be your best friend. Several major shopping centres like The Crossroads and the Kalamazoo Mall have everything from local boutiques to designer clothing stores. If you’re looking for something less modern, head to Stadium Drive or Portage Road for a fun-filled day of antiquing.
There’s no shortage of great places to grind at during Kalamazoo holidays, so when you’re hungry after shopping, treat yourself. But you won’t have to go far just hang downtown and instead of exploring the store with the cute heels, hit the Italian restaurant next door. Or grab yourself a hearty cheeseburger from the ’50s-themed diner. Just be sure not to overeat you need to save room in your belly for all the craft beer.
Yeah, we said craft beer. This town has become a hotbed for breweries in recent years and you’d be cheating yourself if you didn’t try out at least four (or however many you can make it to). One place that is a must-visit is the Kalamazoo Beer Exchange, where the prices of beer fluctuates based on how popular the beer is. When something they like to call a “market crash” occurs, the prices fall into the basement where you’ll be tied up in chains, never to be released. Just kidding. Have another beer.
