Holiday In Bandung

You’d travel the world for a good cuppa, and it’s always tea o’clock in Bandung, Indonesia. Not that sweet steeps are the only thing you’ll find in this West Java city—it’s just the perfect thing to sip after zip-lining through the rainforest, shopping on a boat—not for a boat—and soaking in natural hot springs. If you aren’t tea drinker, a holiday to Bandung is still a great idea. (Psst! Java and coffee go hand in hand…or drop in cup.)

Things to Do in Bandung

Smack dab between the north and south coast of West Java, Bandung has heaps of urban amenities and natural beauty, so pick up one of our awesome Bandung car hire options and hit the road. Those who believe the best things in life are brewed should start their Bandung holiday at the nearby Malabar Tea Plantations, where you can get down and dirty with a hot cup of chai, from crops to cream and sugar. With a nice caffeine boost, test how outdoorsy you are at Bandung Treetop Adventure, complete with suspension bridges, skill courses and zip-lines suspended high above the forest floor. If your idea of Bandung holidays is a little lower-key, you can soak away the athleticism—or skip it altogether—at the Ciater and Sari Ater Hot Springs in the small town of Lembang to the north.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

Pro Tip: Before you shop till you drop all your cash, save with one of our Bandung packages. For reals. Take in a big haul in the Dago area, known for its huge collection of outlet stores. To follow this season down the runway, fill your bags at Rumah Mode on Jalan Setiabudi. But for an experience you can’t have a home, make your way back to Lembang’s floating market—yes, you float along, buy fresh produce and handmade souvenirs, and float some more.

You can taste the world in Bandung, because this region is home to many ethnic communities, from Sudanese to Chinese and indigenous Javanese (and more!). Devour a hot plate of timbel (a roasted meat main dish) Sudanese-style. Timbel comes in many varieties, topped with anything from fried bean curd to fish, and it’s the signature bite of Bandung. For your semi-sweet tooth, sample some pisang molen, a traditional Indonesian pastry filled with bananas and cheese—great for those who like their desserts slightly savoury.

Bandung may be balmy, but the nightlife is super cool. Hilly areas, like Dago tend to be more laid-back and cleaner cut, but if red lights are what you seek, look to Jalan Braga, the playground of expats, travellers and locals alike. Croon to your favourite tunes at a karaoke bar or get down at an all-hours dance club.

"The service all around was very good, especially during the buffet breakfast (delicious!). The room was quite roomy however the cleanliness and condition left more to be desired (marker marks on the blind, smelly fridge, for examples). Overall, a good stay for one night in Bandung"
