Holiday In Broome

Face it: Sometimes, bigger is better, and it doesn’t get any bigger than Western Australia. Everyone from backpackers to honeymooning couples loves Broome, on the northern coast.

This probably has something to do with its world-famous marine parks, beach camel rides and moonlight jam sessions, but don’t take our word for it. Book a Broome holiday and see for yourself.

Things to Do in Broome

Great Barrier Reef, shmarrier reef. A holiday in Broome has its own famous dive site: Rowley Shoals. You don’t have to be half-man, half-fish to dive at Mermaid Reef, and you don’t have to know how to pronounce it to dive at Imperieuse Reef your guide will take you there anyway. Snorkel or scuba dive with manta rays and sea turtles and pose for selfies (thumbs up!) with fan corals. Back on shore, get over the holiday hump on Cable Beach, where you can ride a camel! Yes, really!

You might not think Broome holidays can get much cooler than that, but let’s see how you feel after you see dinosaur tracks. Head to Gantheaume Point at low tide to see the 130-million-year-old imprints in the beach’s red sandstone rocks. Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex were here, leaving footprints up to 1.7 m across! Next, see the dinosaurs’ modern-day relatives at the Broome Bird Observatory, a popular destination for rare-bird lovers. Yep, bird-watching isn’t just for your grandma anymore.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

In Broome, the world is your oyster—and those oysters produce some of the best pearls around. Shopping here is all about these tiny white balls, and you might be surprised to learn that Broome packages in Chinatown are your best bet to find a “pearl” of a souvenir. Paspaley Plaza is also nearby, and can take care of all your needs for herbal souvenirs (no, not that kind) and cool stuff to hang on your wall.

Post-beach camel ride, keep the vibe going at one of the Indian, Egyptian or Thai restaurants, or go for Asian fusion or modern Australian. Seafood is always local and fresh, from King Sound barramundi to Fremantle octopus. Getting the idea you can find just about anything here? You’re right! Add in grass-fed steak, wood-fired pizza and crocodile nuggets (tastes like chicken!), and you might be approaching a complete list.

When it comes to nightlife, we’ve got two words for you: backpacker bliss. It may be a small town, and there are only a few bars, but they know how to get down. Broome package deals with accommodation along the eastern coast will have you pub-crawling before you can say “Pearler’s Pale Ale”, while those more into drum circles and jam sessions should check out Cable Beach.

What’s Next?

This beach resort town has found its place in the sun, and now it’s your turn. Bundle your airfares and accommodation on lastminute.com.au to save the most cash, and add on one of our Broome car hire deals so you can be sure you see it all. Like we said, Western Australia’s a big, exciting place!
